A New Chapter of Hope: Pope Kyrillos Foundation Expands St. Mary & Abo Sefein Hospital
For over 20 years, St. Mary & Abo Sefein Hospital in Cairo has been more than just a healthcare facility—it has been a lifeline for the most vulnerable communities in the Hagana area and surrounding regions. Serving over a million people, this nonprofit hospital provides high-quality medical care at just 10% of the operational costs, with the remainder covered through the generosity of donors. For those unable to pay, the hospital ensures free treatment, truly embodying the spirit of compassion and charity.
The hospital has become a trusted place for affordable healthcare, offering a wide range of services, including specialised clinics, emergency care, radiology, physiotherapy, inpatient services, pediatric and neonatal care, and renal dialysis.

A Vision for the Future
However, as the hospital continued to grow in popularity and the number of patients increased, the need for expansion became inevitable. To address this, the Pope Kyrillos Foundation stepped in to facilitate the purchase of an adjacent block of land, allowing for the hospital’s growth. This new space will house additional specialised clinics, more operating rooms, and an expanded neonatal care unit, which will accommodate more newborns and save more lives.
The foundation has played a crucial role in completing the interior finishing of the new building, ensuring it is equipped with cutting-edge medical technology. Plans are also underway to establish an Endoscopy Unit, further advancing the hospital’s capabilities.
