A Year of Transformation at St. Mina’s Children Home: 2024 Recap

Nestled in the serene town of Nadi, Fiji, St. Mina’s Children’s Home is more than just a shelter—it’s a sanctuary for 23 extraordinary children aged 2 to 18. Many of these children have endured hardships, including abandonment, abuse, or growing up in poverty-stricken households. Despite their challenging beginnings, 2024 has been a year of hope and transformation, thanks to the unwavering support and generosity of our donors and volunteers.
Sustainable Infrastructure
One of the year’s most significant accomplishments was the construction of an underground greywater filtration system. This sustainable infrastructure has greatly improved the home’s water management, ensuring a healthier and more efficient environment for the children. Alongside this, we addressed several pressing structural needs, including repairing broken walls, fixing leaks, and replacing plumbing and rotten kitchen drawers. These improvements have made the home a safer and more comfortable place for the children to thrive.
Personalised Attention for Every Child
Education remained a top priority this year. With your help, we moved five children into private 1-on-1 schooling, enabling them to receive personalised attention tailored to their unique learning needs. Additionally, we brought in dedicated tutors to support the children in their studies, bridging educational gaps and helping them achieve academic success. To further prepare the children for the future, we introduced a life skills program, where our youth learned to make and sell arts and crafts at the local markets.
Enhancing Well-Being
The well-being of our children was also at the forefront of our efforts. We replaced all mattresses and replenished their clothing, ensuring they had the essentials needed for comfort and dignity. To nurture their growth and happiness, we organised two holiday programs that provided the children with unforgettable experiences and opportunities to bond.
Sustainability Projects
This year also marked the introduction of several exciting projects to promote sustainability and self-sufficiency. In collaboration with local sponsors, we facilitated the building of a greenhouse, where the children now grow their own seedlings and plants. The addition of this greenhouse not only supports the home’s food supply but also teaches the children valuable agricultural skills.
Transforming Spaces
With the help of our dedicated volunteers, we accomplished even more. Together, we transformed the kitchen and pantry, installed new fans, and cleared out the white shed. We also built a chicken coop, mud kitchens, and a sandpit, providing the children with new recreational and educational spaces. The outdoor sports area and lighting installations have further enhanced the home, creating a lively and dynamic environment for the children to play and grow.
Thank You for Your Support
None of these achievements would have been possible without your generosity and belief in our mission. Your support has brought hope, comfort, and opportunity to these incredible children. As we reflect on this year’s accomplishments, we look forward to continuing this journey together, ensuring a brighter future for every child at St. Mina’s Children’s Home.

Thank you for being a part of this transformative journey!
